Bacolaodiat 2011: Kung Hei Fat Choi!
3:04 AM
Yesterday, Bacolod City celebrated Chinese New Year with a bang as it was the opening of the 6th Bacolaodiat Festival. And every year it gets more and more exciting as more activities are added to give more color to the festival.
Bacolaodiat was coined from the word Bacolod and Lao Diat which is a Fookien term for ‘Celebration’. Well, the Year of the Rabbit 2011 Bacolaodiat theme is “Hopping Towards Prosperity”.
The celebration started with a dragon and lion dance with lots and lost of firecrackers and a colorful grand parade with illuminated floats (giant Zodiac Animals), lanterns, participants from the lantern dance competition and various Tsinoy organizations.
The parade started at the Bacolod City Hall and ended at the provincial Lagoon where the giant Zodiac animals where placed at Lacson Street. Then a welcome speech was made and a cultural show which features Chinese songs and dances at the Chopsticks Alley. And at around 9:00PM there was a firework display called the Symphony of Lights & Sparks. And after, it was party, party, party till the wee hour of the morning. But happy to say I didn’t drink any beers Just had a coffee overload.
Xin Nien Kwai Le – la lang! Just want to greet everyone in Mandarin C’ya on Feb 5, 6PM for the lantern dance competition!
